Critical Response to Twessay

#Openness – My Critical response to all our Twessays

For me the term openness is one that has many interpretations. For my own tweet (https://twitter.com/DenisVaughanUCC/status/654655069028134912?lang=en) I found it particularly hard to fit such an expansive term into only 140 characters. I described it as “unrestricted, non-judgmental freedom to express ones views” whereas the likes of Joseph Harrington ‏described it as “a form of courage that enables those audacious enough to exploit it to reveal their most intimate thoughts” and Jadwiga Przestrzelska used an interesting visually tweet concept to express her views using the keys to make a box with the caption of “Think outside the box”

As we were limited to the amount of characters we could use I found myself rephrasing and retyping my tweet numerous times. I found this idea challenging but beneficial. One of the advantages of tweets compared to other written forms is the how easy it is to retype and edit without the need to cross out words and make a mess. I use twitter regularly so I was very familiar with its format and I also liked the way we used the hashtag which enabled us to follow each other’s tweets.

From all the tweets both Joseph and Jadwiga’s tweets the most captivating. I’m a visually learner so I find the use of pictures and emoji’s very useful. Joseph’s Tweet (https://twitter.com/JozBud/status/654929698338820096) embedded emoji’s to express thoughts and emotions, with our limited character count this was a great idea to save characters while also creating a far quicker visual emotion. Joseph used a similar style to my own which is one of the reasons I liked it so much.

Jadwiga’s tweet (https://twitter.com/jadwiga_98/status/654681531298942976) was by far the most visual of all the tweets I read, she went away from the normal style of tweeting and used a creative style to create a box representing information with ‘info (plz pay)’ inside this showed visually that there is a barrier to information. She wrote next to is ‘Think outside the box –>  and open it, making info accessible’ She didn’t use any emoji’s which was interesting see as they were very popular in the other tweets but I believe that she got her views across clearly without the need for them.

From reading all the Twessays I really got an idea of how many meanings people came up with for the word openness. In conclusion I believe everyone used the restricted characters to express their own opinion excellently. Each opinion was original and with the aid of the hash tag it was easy to navigate through one another’s and view what that thought openness meant to them.

In conclusion I really feel I learned a lot from the Twessay assignment. It let me see a whole new use for twitter and actually use hash tags to follow a thread. I hope our next Twessay will be as enjoyable and by then I will be far more comfortable with using twitter to express my views on matters more critically. DV
